What Can You Earn with an IT Certification?

The technology industry news site, Channel Insider, recently published an article titled, “Tech Certifications That Pay the Best Salary.” Curious what those might be, I took a look at the list.

Their information is based on a survey of 17,000 technology professionals conducted by technology training and certification company, Dice Learning. Dice Learning listed the certifications in order of how much you would earn for your tuition dollar, starting with the most cost-effective at the top.

1. Project management professional
2. Microsoft certified system’s engineer
3. A+ for tech support professionals
4. Cisco certified network associate
5. Microsoft certified professionals for developers and system architects
6. Network+
7. CISSP (security certification from the Information Security Certification Consortium or ISC)
8. Microsoft certified systems administrator
9. ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library)
10. Security+

Since the article didn’t list any salary data, I have collected some from PayScale’s database on a variety of IT certifications and what you can earn with them. And, there are plenty more to research in the PayScale database. Whether you’re interested in IT project management, computer security or network operations, hopefully this information will inspire you to get the certification you want and earn more cash.

Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD)

Sun Certified Web Component Developer (SCWCD)

Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) PL/SQL Developer

Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

I have completed ITIL v3 foundation certification. would like to know which companies can I apply and how to start with? I have total 4 years 10 months of experience in technical support

Ivonny,
I talked to Dr. Salary here at PayScale and found out the following information about the degree you're seeking:

MCDST is the old Microsoft desktop support technician certification for Windows XP. It is being retired in July.

A person wanting this kind of certification likely really wants a MCITP certification for Windows 7: see http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcitp.aspx for more information.

The best way to determine what courses and exams are available online or in your location is by going to the Microsoft worldwide learning site (http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/worldwide-sites.aspx) appropriate for you.

Ivonny

How long will it take to finish studying MCDST and is it possible to pass the exams studying alone at home?

Ivonny

l need to know how much salary should l expect here in Johannesburg if l finish my MCDST cousre without any experience.

Nathaniel @ project management certification

You have searched really well. The tables shows how much you will earn if you take those courses and it's really good.

If you are a practical person, you will surely pick a profession with the greatest salary earned. But as for me, I will choose a profession where I am good at.(Because if I don't, I will be prone to clumsiness!)Great post!

MCITP

good research work!

I just become MCITP certified by the help of www.certxpert.com
They have enough experience to pass Microsoft MCSE, MCITP, MCTS, MCPD, MCDBA, MCSA, MCP certification exam. They are very professional and also available 24*7. They also have enough experience to pass comptia certification exams including comptia A+, server+, security+, project+, RFID+, network+ etc
