Dating Consultant Job Description:

I am a dating consultant, President of Rapid Dating and the author of Love Mechanics. I do personal dating consulting and give dating ideas and advice for women and men; including makeover services, wardrobe tune-ups and love nest tune-ups. I will tune up people’s homes and create love environments. Guys often think, “Once I meet a girl, I’ll fix up my place,” but it’s actually the reverse. He needs to fix up his home first! I take people shopping for a new wardrobe. I create love scripts for people in different dating situations; for people who don’t know what to say.

What exactly is Rapid Dating?

Rapid dating is the ultimate way for people to connect. What happens is there is a cocktail party/mixer; then we sit a man down with a different woman every five minutes. Then a bell rings and you move to the next person, then the next person. If any two people have a mutual interest for business fun, friendship or romance, then they write each other’s name down on a card.

If both people mutually agree, then the next day, our company sends them the other's contact information. It’s really cool because there is no rejection and it’s the quickest way to meet a lot of people in your community without having to do the internet dating thing - looking up pictures and going on bad blind dates - there’s no long term commitment and it’s a lot of fun.

How did you become one of the most popular dating experts?

I was a hair dresser and then a wedding consultant for my father's catering business. Then I moved to Los Angeles and worked as a wedding consultant and makeup artist. People were always asking my opinion on matters of the heart, so I was giving advice even back then; I could tell when people shouldn't be getting married.

Then I was asked by a friend to be a guest speaker in a Learning Annex class for men about meeting women. There were 40 guys asking me questions. So I said to them, “Why don’t we talk after the class?” Well, after class the men asked me so many questions that my friend got jealous. The Learning Annex called and asked me to replace him. Pretty soon I was doing cable TV shows and got hired to host "Men Across America," a cable show. That’s when I realized that most men never got any advice about dating, so I decided to change that.

What advice would you have for people who want to be dating experts?

You need to have a lot of stamina and a heart for people. You need to be able to keep up with technology because it changes minute by minute, it’s an ongoing business. You really have to know about communication, psychology and personality traits. Most of it is giving people good communication skills. Lots of dating experts teach pick-up artist things, but that's a temporary fix. What I do is equip people so that they can find and have a healthy relationship.

What is the salary range for dating experts? Tell us about dating consultant salaries.

The salary range for dating experts can range from $100K to $500K. It depends on how much they work. For salary range, dating experts usually charge $75-$300 an hour. I charge $120-$150 per hour; if they are a rapid dating customer, I charge less. The average consulting time is 5-6 hours.

I've been involved in the dating and relationships field for close to 20 years but do more public speaking, seminars, and presentations for payment.

I don't do matchmaking per say, but at the various events there have been people that met and went out for coffee or dinner. Several of them have dated long-term and 2 couples married. I greatly admire people with the stamina and determination to go out and find someone for another person's happiness.
